Check service status and contact support

If something seems wrong, check service status first. If that doesn’t explain it, contact us through the support page or by email.

Applies to Web · Mac · iPhone app

If notes won’t open, or several people hit the same problem at once, the first question is whether it’s your device or the server. CommonNote’s servers are checked from outside every 5 minutes, and the results are shown in the app’s top bar and on the status page.

Check status in the app

  1. Look at the small status light in the top bar. Hover over it to see the current state.
  2. Click it to open the Service status panel, which lists each checked service and shows Checked externally every 5 min.
  3. For past incidents, click Status page at the bottom of the panel.
ShownMeaning
All services operationalThe latest external checks all passed. If results are missing or stale it shows Checking status instead of green. If it’s green and something is still wrong, check your device or network first
Some services are slowSomething is responding slowly. Try again in a moment
Some services are downA server-side outage. Edits to notes you already have open are kept on your device and sync once service is restored
Checking statusResults are still loading
“This device cannot reach the server — check your internet connection first”Most likely a connection problem on this device rather than the server

What is checked

  • Web and API — basics such as signing in, note lists and uploads
  • Real-time editing — syncing note content and editing together
  • App updates — delivery of Mac app updates

If you can’t sign in or open the app, go straight to commonnote.app/status in a browser.
