Send and answer review requests

Keep ownership of a task while asking a colleague to take a look, and get back Review complete or Request changes.

Applies to Web · Mac · iPhone app · reviewers must share the note

A review request asks a colleague to check one task line. Unlike a handoff, ownership doesn’t change. Use it for results tables, draft paragraphs or order lists — work you’re keeping but want someone to look over.

Send a review request

  1. In the note, click the :: chip at the right of the task line, then Request review. Or right-click the line and choose Request review….
  2. Choose who should review it. Only people who share the note are listed, and you can pick several. If there’s nobody, you’ll see “No one else is on this note — share it first.”
  3. Optionally add a note about what to focus on (up to 300 characters).
  4. Click Send review request (or Send review request to {count} people).

Reviewers are notified. With two or more pending requests, the line’s button reads Request review {n}. You can’t send the same line to the same person again until the first request is finished, and you can’t ask yourself.

Answer a request

  1. Open To-dos → Requests and look under Received. The red count on the tab is how many are waiting for you.
  2. Click Open original item to see the line in its note.
  3. Write your findings or the changes needed in the Response note (up to 300 characters).
  4. Click Review complete or Request changes. Request changes needs a response note.

The requester is notified with your answer and note. The task’s completion and owner stay as they were.

Manage requests you sent

  • Under Requests → Sent you see pending requests and the answers you got back. The amber count on the tab is how many you’re waiting on.
  • Withdraw a pending request with Cancel request. The reviewer is notified that it was canceled.

Keep the list tidy

  • Clear hides a finished request from your list only. It stays on the other person’s side and in the note.
  • Clear all {n} finished tidies up in one go. Use Show cleared → Restore to bring one back.
  • If the source note is locked, you’ll see “Unlock the note first to view the original item.”
To discuss specific sentences or paragraphs, review mode and comments are a better fit. A review request is for a single “checked” or “please fix” answer on one task line.
