Change profile, nickname and language

Set your public nickname, icon color and name display from the profile menu, and switch between Korean and English from the Language menu.

The name other people see in CommonNote is your public nickname. If you leave it empty, they see your login ID instead. The login ID itself can’t be changed after sign-up; the nickname can be changed at any time.

Change your public nickname and icon color

  1. Click your name at the right end of the top bar (on a phone, the round avatar). Its tooltip is My profile · name display settings.
  2. Type a name under Public nickname shown to others and click Save. Nicknames can be up to 30 characters.
  3. To change your icon color, click the color swatch (My icon color) at the top right of the menu and pick a color. It saves as soon as you choose, and “Icon color saved” appears.
Save the nickname field empty to go back to showing your username. The @username · login ID line at the top of the menu is the name you sign in with, and it doesn’t change.

Choose how colleagues’ names appear

How I see names in the same menu controls how other people’s names appear on your screen. It doesn’t affect what anyone else sees.

This choice is saved separately on each device (browser). To give a colleague a private alias or icon that only you see, use the colleague directory.

Change the app language

  1. Click the Language icon in the top bar. If you aren’t signed in, use the 한국어 / English buttons at the top right of the sign-in screen.
  2. Choose 한국어 or English. The app reloads once and every screen switches over.
  • The language is saved on that device (browser). The first time you open the app, it follows your browser’s language.
  • The app also tells your account which language you use, so push notifications and emails arrive in the language you last used the app in.
  • On very narrow phones (380px wide or less), the Language icon is hidden from the top bar. Change it on the sign-in screen after signing out, or turn the phone sideways.

Good to know

  • When you share with or assign work to someone, you find them by username, not nickname. Tell colleagues your username.
