View options: fonts, spacing and paper

Adjust the editor’s font, size, spacing, margins and paper to suit you, and save a combination you like as your default.

The editor’s look is controlled from one place: View options (the sliders icon) in the top bar. There is no separate Settings menu. Changes apply only to your screen; they don’t change the note’s content or what collaborators see. Your choices are saved to your account.

Text and spacing

Change each one with its slider, the −/+ buttons or by typing a number. These set the default look of every note. To give just some text a different font or size, use Font and Font size in the editor toolbar (see Format text and blocks).

Note paper

Under Note paper, choose the page background: Default, Oxford ruled, Grid, Dot grid, Legal pad or Cream paper. The pattern is for display only; it isn’t part of the note or its exports.

Colors and icons

Top bar color and System accent color: pick a color or Follow theme. To switch between light and dark, use the Light mode/Dark mode button in the top bar.
Shortcut color palette: choose the color each number applies with ⌥⌘1–9 (text color) and ⇧⌥⌘1–9 (highlight). Reset palette restores the original colors.
Icon set: choose the app’s icon style from Lucide, Phosphor or Tabler. Insert icon in the editor starts from this set too.

Display behavior

Chemical subscripts (on by default) shows H2SO4 as H₂SO₄. The underlying text doesn’t change, so search and copy still work. For exceptions, see Chemical subscripts and exceptions.
Strike through completed lines (on by default): turning it off removes only the line-through; items stay done. Turn it off when you’re reading or presenting a finished note.
Display scale sizes the whole app: 75–150% in a browser and 40–300% in the Mac app, in 5% steps.
App opacity: 85–100%.

Save and restore defaults

Button	What it does
Save as default	Saves the current values as your default.
Apply default	After experimenting, returns everything to your saved default in one go.
Reset to factory defaults	Resets both the current values and your saved default to the original settings.

Calendar table: Table text size and Table row spacing. These apply only to the calendar’s schedule table (see Work in the schedule table).
