Create an account and sign in

Sign up with a username, password and email address, then follow the link in the confirmation email to sign in.

A CommonNote account needs a username, a password and an email address. You sign in with the username, and it is also how other people find you when they share a note or add you to a team. Once you confirm the email address you signed up with, it becomes your recovery email for when you forget your password.

Sign up

  1. Open commonnote.app/signup. From the sign-in screen, click No account? Sign up.
  2. Enter a Username: 2–20 characters using Korean or English letters, numbers and _ . -. Capital letters are saved as lowercase.
  3. Choose a Password of at least 10 characters that you don’t use anywhere else (see the table below).
  4. Under Email (we'll send a confirmation link), enter an address you can check. It is required.
  5. Under How will you use CommonNote?, choose Personal (For your own work) or the team option (A workspace shared with members).
  6. Optionally fill in Who you are, briefly (optional), up to 300 characters.
  7. Agree to the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy, then click Sign up.
  8. When you see Check your email, open the email and click the link. Once the address is confirmed, your account is ready and you can sign in.
FieldRules
Username2–20 characters: Korean or English letters, numbers, _, . and -. It can’t be changed later. You can set a separate public nickname that others see after you sign up.
Password10 to 200 characters, with no space at the start or end. Very common passwords, repeated characters or chunks, straight runs along the keyboard, and passwords containing your username or email are rejected.
Confirmation linkValid for 24 hours.
No email? Check your spam folder, then use Send verification email again on the confirmation screen or Resend signup verification email on the sign-in screen.

Signing up from an invitation

If a workspace owner invited you by email, open the sign-up screen from the link in that email. The screen shows the team that invited you, and you must sign up with the invited email address. If the address doesn’t match or the invitation has expired (invitations last 7 days), you can’t sign up with it — ask the person who invited you to send a new one.

Sign in

  1. At commonnote.app/login, enter your Username and Password and click Log in.
  2. If you have registered a passkey, you can click Sign in with a passkey instead in a browser (the Mac and iPhone apps don’t show this button). Register passkeys in a browser after signing in, under the profile menu → Account security → Passkeys. New passkeys can’t be created inside the Mac or iPhone app.
  • Use Language on the sign-in screen to switch between 한국어 and English.
  • You stay signed in for up to 30 days, and you’ll need to sign in again after 14 days without use.
  • After more than 5 wrong passwords you must wait 10 seconds, then 30 seconds, 2 minutes, 5 minutes, 15 minutes and 1 hour. The count resets after 24 hours without a failed attempt.
  • If you can’t remember your username or password, click Forgot your username or password? and see Forgot your password or username.

After you sign up

  • CommonNote at a glanceA line you write in a note becomes a task, can be handed to a colleague, and shows up in the calendar, project tree and dashboard. Wherever you see it, the original is that one line.
  • Create your first note and notebookCreate a note with the + button in the note list (⌘N) and a notebook with the + next to My notebooks (⇧⌘N). There is no save button.
  • Secure your accountManage your recovery email, passkeys, password and signed-in devices from Profile menu → Account security.
  • Forgot your password or usernameA verified recovery email receives a password reset link (valid for 1 hour) or a reminder of your username.
