Widgets and Apple Watch
See today’s work and upcoming deadlines on widgets and your watch face without opening the app.

CommonNote widgets show today’s tasks, deadlines and your daily note without opening the app. On a Mac they come with the Mac app; on iPhone and iPad they come with the iPhone app. Tap or click a widget and the app opens straight to that screen.

On iPhone, every widget except At a glance can also go on the Lock Screen.
Add widgets on a Mac
- Install the Mac app, open it once and sign in.
- Right-click the desktop or open Notification Center, then choose Edit Widgets (a macOS menu).
- Find CommonNote in the list and drag the widget and size you want into place.
The Desktop Calendar Widget, which the Mac app shows in its own window, is a separate feature. See Use the Mac app.
Add widgets on iPhone or iPad
- Open the iPhone app once and sign in.
- Touch and hold an empty area of the Home Screen to start editing, add a widget and choose CommonNote.
Apple Watch
The Apple Watch app shows what the iPhone app sends it. The watch doesn’t connect to the server on its own, so you need the iPhone app first.
- There are two screens: Today’s timetable (now, next and the rest of today, plus how many tasks have no time yet) and Task dashboard (tasks left, completion rate, what to look at first, and a comparison with last week).
- The same two are available as watch face complications: Today’s timetable shows what you’re on now and today’s progress; Task dashboard shows tasks left, completion rate and overdue work.
- If the watch asks you to open CommonNote on your iPhone, do that once to load today’s timetable. If it says the information is out of date, it refreshes when your iPhone is nearby.
If a widget is empty or out of date
- Widgets don’t fetch from the server themselves; they read only what the app hands them. If a widget is empty right after installing, open the app once and sign in.
- Widgets update while the app is running. If a change from another device shows up late, open the app on this device.
